Vic Mensa taps Chance The Rapper as Director on Visuals for “Shelter (Acoustic)”

Chicago-born rapper Vic Mensa has released an acoustic version of the track “Shelter” where he featured Chance The Rapper, who he has also tapped to direct the music video.

The visuals, which is Chance The Rapper’s directorial debut, was created according to his vision of warm hues and grayscale, reflecting the song’s intimate and string-based texture.

“By stripping the song to its most bare form, we were really able to bring out a new depth of beauty and meaning, in a time when we as a people are searching for it,” said Mensa, when asked about the song. The song was aimed at address social issues such as racial injustice, over-criminalization, and underserved communities in America. He further said, “Chance’s directional focus on simplicity shows strength in showing the world just as it is.”
