Toronto Raptors Advance to NBA Finals for the First Time as Fans Flood the Streets in Celebration

This past weekend, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 100-94, winning the series 4-2 and also the Eastern Conference championship, to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.

The Raptors became the Eastern Conference champions after an impressive come-from-behind Game 6 win at home, at the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto. Thousands of fans took to Jurassic Park and in the surrounding area during the game in anticipation of the highly anticipated victory. Following the game, celebrations expanded to other parts of downtown Toronto, such as Yonge Street and Yonge-Dundas Square.

Reports are noting that around 50,000 fans attended the massive street parties which saw fans lighting fireworks, climbing on street lights and jumping on top of buses and cars. With a tweet from Toronto Police asking fans to “be mindful, courteous and safe,” surprisingly no arrest and serious injuries occurred during all the celebrations that took place around the city.

Take a look at some of the celebrations that took place in Toronto above.
