Let’s Talk About: Micheal K. Williams

Most of us were introduced to Micheal Kenneth Williams as the character Omar Little on HBO’s critically acclaimed show “The Wire”. His hair in short cornrows or covered by a doo-rag, donned in all black ensembles including his infamous long oversized car coat. This image was emblazoned on the minds of folks worldwide. It wasn’t until his role as Chalky White on HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ that we were able to see a new Williams. As Chalky White, Williams is always impeccably dressed. Seems Williams’ style has been informed by his character.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he started dancing professionally at the age of 22, appearing in more than 50 music videos during his time. He made his feature-film debut in 1996's Bullet, after being discovered by Tupac Shakur. He has a plethora of awards from the Emmy awards, to much more.

In the late 1980s, Michael Williams wore the dark puffy jackets, designer jeans and sneakers that were popular in his community. “But when ‘wilding’ started going on in New York City, that was the attire for them as well,” says Williams, who changed the way he dressed out of fear in the wake of the Central Park jogger case. Now, the four-time Emmy nominee goes for clean, classic clothes with “a little pop.” “I like to bring a little bit of my personality and my flair to the tradition.”

More recently, he was featured in major magazines, and much more, showcasing his unique blend of corporate look and streetstyle. He will be forever remembered for his legendary performances, his spirit, style, and his amazing smile. May he find eternal peace.
